<p>THE PALLAS STORY: Favorite daughter of the Greek God, Zeus, Pallas Athena or simply, Pallas is known as the goddess of wisdom. Because of this gift she was charged with overseeing practical arts which included agriculture and winemaking. On the hill of the Acropolis, the Athenians built a temple to Pallas – the Parthenon. The Parthenon, pictured prominently on the front label of this Demeter certified Biodynamic® estate wine and subtly in all Imagery Estate Artist Collection labels has an emotional connection to Imagery’s founders, the Benziger family. The model for this Parthenon is located on the Benziger ranch and is the family’s own temple to their 26 years as passionate winegrowers. </p>
<p>BIODYNAMICS AT IMAGERY: Biodynamics is a wholistic farming approach that was developed in the 1920s by Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian scientist-philosopher who developed Waldorf education. In 2001, the Demeter Association* certified the 20-acre Imagery Estate as Biodynamic. While it encompasses many of the principles of organic farming, such as the elimination of all chemicals, Biodynamics goes further, requiring close attention to the varied forces of nature influencing the vine. It also emphasizes a closed nutrient and self-sustaining ecosystem. In addition to the three acres of vines, the remaining acres at Imagery are used to attract helpful pests and animal life that reduce the need for artificial inputs and creates an environment of biodiversity. Simply put, grapes grown in a healthy environment produce wines that are richer in flavor and a true representation of the place from which the grapes are grown.</p>
<p>ABOUT DEMETER: *Founded in 1928, the Demeter Association is the only Biodynamic certifier in the world. Demeter is an assembly of 20 country-based organizations that support and promote the Biodynamic agriculture methods of Rudolf Steiner. The U.S. branch of the Demeter Association is a national, independent, non-profit corporation committed to assuring that Biodynamic foods in the United States and Mexico are grown and processed with the strictest care and integrity. </p>
<p>VINIFICATION: The fruit was fermented for 28 days in a pumpover tank. The wines were pressed at dryness and then placed in 100% French oak barrels (45% new oak) for 18 months. The final wine was blended and bottled in May of 2007. </p>
