Grand Monarque Champagne - Methode Champenoise - is Brotherhood’s most emblematic and traditional product. Historically, Brotherhood’s “Le Grand Monarque” was the product that put New York Champagne on the map at the 1900 Paris Exposition. At that time Brotherhood had over 600,00 bottles aging in its cellars.
Brotherhood’s Grand Monarque was revived using the traditional champagne grapes, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, using the Methode Champenois, involving months of hand-riddling in Brotherhood’s famed underground cellars. Visitors to the winery can see the champagne “sur lattes” (fermenting in lattice rows) prior to riddling, disgorging, dosaging and wire-hood capping.
Grand Monarque is further enhanced by the R.D. designation (recently disgorged). R.D. Champagne is aged for a minimum of 2 years before disgorging, producing a Brut Champagne with richer flavors and aromas bathed in tiny long-lasting bubbles. This elegant champagne makes any occasion truly special when served well-chilled before, during or after a meal.
Released in limited productions there is often a waiting list for our Grand Monarque.
