For me, this Old Vine Zinfandel block is truly a labor of love. Fantastic quality and very low yield mean I can only make less than 200 cases each year, but I felt it is my duty as a steward of this beautiful land to farm these historic 94-year old vines. They make a spectacular, big fruit forward wine. Enjoy it with my Medium Rare Lamb Stew recipe.
2004 vintage turned out to be a great year for old vine Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. Showing all the concentration of the small berry vintage. Striking minerality to the nose followed by kirsch, lavender, white flowers and creosote. The texture is almost Petite Sirah like with a backward sore of blackberries, river stones, black Muscat and cassis. In 2004, we harvested 1/2 tons from the 99 year old 2 acre block.
