With WATERS OF EDEN, Levin steps into the leader's role for a change and conjures up music of striking beauty and texture that challenges his listeners yet never fails to convey an underlying emotional subtext. Drawing on such diverse sources as world music, progressive rock and New Age, Levin weaves a stunningly vibrant web of sound textures, using his various bass instruments as a grounding oint. Tracks like the mysterious opener "Bone & Flesh," featuring Levin on cello, and the percussive "Pillar Of Fire," offer the listener a plethora of intriguing passages that shatter the boundaries of instrumental creativity. In more intimate moments such as "Belle," a duet featuring his brother Pete Levin on synthesizer, the gentler side of the bassist's work is highlighted with mesmerizing elegance.
