There is a new FTC rule effective May 14, 2025: https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2024/10/federal-trade-commission-announces-final-click-cancel-rule-making-it-easier-consumers-end-recurring.
How does Nexternal manage this new process for Club members?
Response:
The FTC rule requires sellers to make it as simple to cancel enrollment in club membership as it was to sign up. TrueCommerce Nexternal has added functionality to your eCommerce platform to accommodate this new rule.
Here is the process for enabling the new Click-to-Cancel functionality:
1. Visit OMS / Settings section / Site Options - Edit / Customer Type History Display setting and update this to "All Changes" / click Finish at the bottom of the page.
2. Go to the OMS, navigate to the Customers section, and select the Types tab.
3. Increase the number of customer types by 1 and name the new type "Former Club Member". Set the 'Rank' field value to '1' and set the 'Club Remove' radio button for this type.
4. Ensure the ‘Club’ checkbox is checked for all existing club membership types.
When an existing club member cancels their membership, they will be moved to the 'Former Club Member' customer type. Customers will see the 'Cancel my club membership' checkbox on the Edit Contact Information page when they log into their account.
Tip: Consider adding click-to-cancel disclosures to your club membership terms & conditions documentation and order-confirmation email addenda field for your club membership product.
