When processing credit cards via a Gateway, what determines whether the Order Number is used as the Gateway Order Number, versus a separate 4 or 5 digit number?
Response:
The 6 digit Order Number (assigned by Nexternal) is used as the Gateway Order Number when possible, but a separate 4 or 5 digit number may be used when this is not possible. For example, when credit card processing begins with an Auth Only at the time of order placement (or, more accurately, just before order placement) as determined by the "Authorize credit card before accepting order" option (Settings/Compatible Software/Payment Gateways/Authorizations in the Order Management System), a separate number must be used, as no Order Number exists at that point.
