Question:
How do I integrate Facebook, Twitter, and other social media options with my Nexternal storefront?
Response:
Go to Settings > Compatible Software > Social Networking. Here you can configure your preferences and activate options for Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google Plus, and AddThis so your clients can easily share their purchases with their friends, family & followers.
Facebook Product Sharing: This feature places a button (the Facebook "Like" Button) on your Product List and/or Detail screens (Layout/Main Layout/Visibility Rules), with which your customers may instantly "like" any of your products in Facebook. The button also displays the total number of people who have "liked" the product; and, if the "Like" Button Faces option is on (found in Settings / Compatible Software - Edit / Social Networking / Preferences) the faces of any friends of the customer who have "liked" the product.
Facebook Coupon Sharing: This feature works in conjunction with your coupons. When your customers activate a coupon and the coupon activation box pops up, this feature places the Facebook "Like" Button in the Coupon popup box. This allows your customers to instantly "like" the coupon in Facebook.
If you are using the Nexternal.NET Online Store Version (Layout/General Layout) and specify either Admin IDs or an Application ID (or both) on the Preferences screen, additional product/coupon details are made available via HTML meta tags supported by Facebook via the Open Graph protocol. Thus, using Nexternal.NET enables you to maximize the power of this feature. Several options relating to the HTML meta tags are located in Settings / Compatible Software - Edit / Social Networking / Preferences; others are leveraged from elsewhere in the Order Management System, in particular the General Options in Marketplace Export Preferences (Products/Export/Marketplace Export Preferences).
Twitter Product Sharing: This feature places a button (the Tweet Button) on your Product List and/or Detail screens with which your customers may instantly "tweet" about any of your products, thus sharing that product with their Twitter followers. You may opt to place the button on your product detail screen, product list screen, or both by making a selection in Layout/Main Layout/Visibility Rules. If the Count Box is on (via the Count Box Style option on the Preferences screen), the button also displays the total number of people who have "tweeted" the product.
Twitter Coupon Sharing: This feature works in conjunction with your coupons. When your customers activate a coupon and the coupon activation box pops up, this feature places the Twitter button in that box, so your customers may instantly "tweet" about the coupon, thus sharing that coupon with their Twitter followers.
Pinterest Product Sharing: This feature places a button (the Pin It Button) on your Product Detail screens, with which your customers may instantly pin any of your products to their online pinboard(s) in Pinterest, saving the product for future reference and sharing it with friends and family. If the Count Box is on (via the Count Box Style option on the Preferences screen), the button also displays the total number of people who have "pinned" the product.
Google Product Sharing: This feature places a button (the +1 Button) on your Product List and/or Detail screens with which your customers may instantly recommend any of your products in Google, thus potentially improving your products' ranking and visibility. The location of the button depends on what you have selected in Layout/Main Layout/Visibility Rules. If the Count Box is on (via the Include Count option on the Preferences screen), the button also displays the total number of people who have "+1'ed" the product.
Note: The Pin It and +1 Buttons are supported only in the Nexternal.NET Online Store Version (Layout/General Layout).
AddThis Product Sharing: AddThis is a sharing and bookmarking service that is activated via a button or link (Layout/Buttons) located on the Product List and/or Detail screens (depending on what you have chosen in Layout/Main Layout/Visibility Rules). Clicking and/or positioning the mouse pointer over the button or link allows customers to add a reference to the corresponding product in many popular social networking sites.
AddThis Coupon Sharing: This feature places the AddThis Button/Link on the Coupon Activation Overlay. Clicking and/or positioning the mouse pointer over the button or link allows customers to add a reference to the corresponding coupon in many popular social networking sites.
Order Sharing: Facebook and Twitter Order Sharing allows customers to easily post information about their newly completed orders where they can be read by friends and family members. When a customer completes an order, a "Share" button or link (Layout/Buttons) appears on the Order Confirmation screen, as well as the Order Confirmation E-Mail, Update E-Mail and Shipped E-Mail. The button/link leads to pages where the customer can easily post a message to Facebook or Twitter from one location.
