If I'm pushing a segmented list from Nexternal to MailChimp, will it only push customers who have opted-in to join the mailing list?

Our customer's have the option to opt-in to join our mailing list when checking out or creating an account. Based on tutorial video, it seems that after checking this box, Nexternal will automatically push "updated customer..information" every 10 minutes to MailChimp. Does this mean that every 10 minutes, . . .
