In the fall of 1957, selected clusters of Tinta Madeira grapes were
carefully hand-picked in our estate vineyards. At the winery these
grapes, which showed early promise for an outstanding vintage, were
crushed and fermented by winery founder and winemaker David Ficklin
using time honored traditional Portuguese methods. The character
and fullness are enhanced by the exclusive use of a special
pot-still brandy, made entirely from the same Tinta Madeira grapes.
First bottled February 26th and 27th in 1960, only 5226 bottles
were laid down in the winery cellars. This Port was first released
November 1968. This second and final release of 100 cases has been
aged under controlled conditions at the winery for 40 years.
Re-corked in 1991, this 1957 Vintage Port shows splendid maturity
and graceful elegance.
