Tasting Notes:This merlot has upfront aromas of bright, ripe red cherry and raspberry. On the palate a smooth, soft richness leads into a lingering finish.
Winemaking Notes:Long Island turns out to be a very good place to grow grapes for wine. Its climate is often compared to that of Bordeaux. Its soils are also very similar, being deep sandy soils that drain well (a necessity in a relatively wet -- 30" of rain per year-- climate.)
Grape climates are described by the number of sunshine hours, the number of frost-free days and the number of "degree days". We have more sunshine in Peconic than any other spot in New York: around 230 sunny days per year.
