Wine Recommendation:
Greenwood Ridge Vineyards 2006 Sauvignon Blanc
A Note from the Winery:
It may seem trite to say that wines are made in the vineyard, but we know that our vineyard locations in
Mendocino Ridge and in
Anderson Valley contribute enormous character and style to our wines. The particular soils, sun exposure and maritime-influenced climate combine to give our wines extraordinary richness and classic varietal style.
Tasting Notes:
To attain complexity and balance in our Sauvignon Blanc we use a combination of warm barrel fermentation and cool tank fermentation, and we blend in a good portion of Semillon, which also comes from the Meyer Vineyard in Boonville. The addition of Semillon (20%) defines symbiosis, where the floral, fleshy, feminine apple-and-melon-fruit fills in the open spaces of the flinty, lean, masculine Sauvignon Blanc.
"...One of Anderson Valley's most unique white wines. Grassy, with a hint of semillon's waxiness, vanilla and tinges of honey and citrus, this is a very enjoyable wine to drink." --San Francisco Examiner
Editor's Choice. "This is one of the driest, cleanest and most acidic Sauvignon Blancs on the market, and for those reasons, I love it. It's a European-style wine, as fresh and crisp as a young Sancerre, with green grass, grapefruit and lime flavors leading to a clover honey finish. Beautiful as an apéritif sipper." --Wine Enthusiast
