VINTAGE
The 2007 vintage got off to a late start due to extremely cold weather in January, which put our vines into a deep dormancy. White Riesling is typically the last variety to push buds, but the mid-April budbreak was late even for Riesling in the Arroyo Seco. We had good cluster numbers in 2007, but as the cool growing season progressed, we realized that the clusters were going to be lighter – producing a smaller yield than average. We also had some mildew pressure, which manifested itself with a mild outbreak of the “noble rot,” also known as Botrytis. The combination of environmental conditions, hastened ripening of our White Riesling with harvest commencing on October 21st at 23.5º Brix and 0.72 grams/100 ml of acidity, with flavors of pear, peach, dried apricots and honeydew melon.
WHITE RIESLING
The release of the 2007 J. Lohr White Riesling marks the thirty-first vintage from our Bay Mist vineyard in the town of Greenfield in Monterey County. The vines are grown in Chualar loam soils underlain by stones deposited from the Arroyo Seco. The winds of the Salinas Valley extended the growing season and the fruit retained the natural grape acids. The pure manifestation of fruit from the vineyard is our primary goal in producing this varietal, employing a combination of cultured yeasts fermented in stainless steel.

WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS
The 2007 J. Lohr Estates Bay Mist White Riesling is a pale brassy yellow color with enticing fruit aromas of pear, lychee, ruby grapefruit, honeydew melon and apricot. The 1.98% residual sugar is balanced by the crisp grape acidity and natural spritz from a long cool fermentation, making the 2007 White Riesling an enticingly fruity, refreshing wine capable of complementing the vibrant flavors of Thai curried chicken, Indian Mughlai Biryani chicken, or as an aperitif.

2006 J. Lohr Estates Riverstone Chardonnay -- VINTAGE
The vintage of 2006 will be remembered as one of great calm. Ample winter rainfall, followed by a cool spring and summer returned us to a rather late-ripening vintage and honestly, one that is preferred by most winemakers. Sugar levels and flavors in the Chardonnay fruit gradually rose together through the month of September, with mild temperatures dominating the Arroyo Seco appellation. We . . .
2006 J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet -- VINTAGE
The 2006 vintage saw a return to below average rainfall for Paso Robles, and with it came smaller vine canopies, smaller clusters and smaller Cabernet Sauvignon berries. The combination of these elements in 2006 made for excellent quality in all of our Paso Robles red varietals, but in particular, Cabernet was the most positively impacted. The outstanding color and flavor development brought . . .

The 2006 vintage saw a return to below average rainfall for Paso Robles, and with it came smaller vine canopies, smaller clusters and smaller berries in our Bordeaux varietals. In the case of Merlot, we not only had a very strong vintage in 2006, but we also welcomed a significant amount of fruit from J. Lohr’s vineyards located along Creston Road. Finally, we were blessed with no significant . . .
2005 Estates South Ridge Syrah -- VINTAGE
The 2005 vintage yielded an abundant crop as the result of intense rains in the winter of 2005. The vines bounced back with healthy, quality grapes for the year, with full, round fruit characters and true varietal expression. As our Block 15 matures, the fruit from this vineyard plays a more vital role in this blend. This year, the Australian clones brought a dark complexion of blackberry . . .
2007 Estates Wildflower Valdiguié -- VINTAGE
The 2007 vintage got off to a late start due to extremely cold weather in January which put our vines into a deep dormancy. Bud break occurred at the end of March – very unusual for Greenfield--and with the relatively mild spring and summer, harvest began at the end of October with the last Valdiguié harvested on November 1st. In our winemaking, our goal is to preserve Valdiguié’s wonderful . . .

VINTAGE
The 2006 harvest returned Paso Robles to drought conditions– the third of the last four years. The low rainfall however, was helped by a warm, slow-ripening vintage with minimal vine stress. This mild growing season pushed ripening slowly in 2006, with optimal flavor development occurring in late September. The intensely flavored . . .
