VINTAGE
The 2006 vintage in the Arroyo Seco region of Monterey County showed a return to near-normal rainfall of eleven inches, with cool, windy, Salinas valley weather throughout the growing season. Coming on the heels of the abundant 2005 crop, the 2006 Chardonnay crop was lighter than average, and produced intensely-flavored fruit. The ideal growing conditions promoted a slow and even flavor development with excellent natural grape acid retention in the 2006 Arroyo Vista Chardonnay. Harvest began October 17th with near-perfect flavor development at 24.8º Brix, and acidity at 8.5 grams per liter.
VINEYARDS
The Arroyo Vista Vineyard lies in the heart of the windswept and cool Arroyo Seco AVA of Monterey County. Loamy sand and gravelly loam soils of the Elder series are intermixed and underlain by “Greenfield potatoes” – stones that resemble potatoes in size and appearance and which absorb heat during the day and radiate their heat after sunset. This underlayment of stone effectively limits root growth to the top three to five feet of soil, harmoniously balancing the fruit and shoot growth of our richly flavored Clone 5 Chardonnay on 5BB rootstock.

WINEMAKER’S COMMENTS
The 2006 J. Lohr Arroyo Vista Vineyard Chardonnay is a very attractive pale yellow in color, with aromas of lime and lemon custard, tangerine, peach pie and white flowers. The Burgundian winemaking techniques, including alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in barrel with lees stirring and extended aging, contribute a complex bouquet of vanilla and butterscotch and amplify an already intensely viscous wine. This is an enticingly delicious Chardonnay with complex aromas and flavors balanced by palate-cleansing acidity, perfect for pairing with roasted chicken, pork or cream-sauced pasta dishes. -Jeff Meier, winemaker

2004 J. Lohr Estates Seven Oaks Cabernet -- VINTAGE
The 2004 vintage of our estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon kicked off an unusually early harvest. Typically, we harvest around the end of September and run through middle to late October. In 2004, the fruit began rolling in on the 1st of September and was all but done by the end of the month. A warm, early spring and another year of below average rainfall brought bud break forward, ensuring an . . .
2005 Arroyo Vista Vineyard Chardonnay -- VINTAGE
The 2005 vintage in the Arroyo Seco was a welcome respite from the short, warm vintages of 2003 and 2004. Early March bud push in the Chardonnay was met with abundant spring rains, followed by a long, cool growing season. These ideal conditions allowed intense flavor development and acid preservation in a slow and even ripening of the Arroyo Vista Chardonnay fruit. Harvest commenced on . . .
2005 Estates South Ridge Syrah -- VINTAGE
The 2005 vintage yielded an abundant crop as the result of intense rains in the winter of 2005. The vines bounced back with healthy, quality grapes for the year, with full, round fruit characters and true varietal expression. As our Block 15 matures, the fruit from this vineyard plays a more vital role in this blend. This year, the Australian clones brought a dark complexion of blackberry . . .
2006 J. Lohr Estates Riverstone Chardonnay -- VINTAGE
The vintage of 2006 will be remembered as one of great calm. Ample winter rainfall, followed by a cool spring and summer returned us to a rather late-ripening vintage and honestly, one that is preferred by most winemakers. Sugar levels and flavors in the Chardonnay fruit gradually rose together through the month of September, with mild temperatures dominating the Arroyo Seco appellation. We . . .
2007 Estates Wildflower Valdiguié -- VINTAGE
The 2007 vintage got off to a late start due to extremely cold weather in January which put our vines into a deep dormancy. Bud break occurred at the end of March – very unusual for Greenfield--and with the relatively mild spring and summer, harvest began at the end of October with the last Valdiguié harvested on November 1st. In our winemaking, our goal is to preserve Valdiguié’s wonderful . . .
2003 Hilltop Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon -- VINTAGE
September 22nd was the first day of harvest for Hilltop Vineyard blocks 55 and 56. 2003 was a year for very low rainfall, producing modest yields and very tiny Cabernet berries. Particularly in the Hilltop blocks, we are trying to provide dappled--not direct--sunlight on the fruit to protect the anthocyanin pigment from damaging high temperatures. In the Hilltop Vineyard, we harvested purely . . .
