The Rancho Sarco Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon reflects my efforts to play with the ‘Big Dogs’ of the Napa Valley. Past vintages have shown great promise by winning Best Cabernet Sauvignon of the Napa Appellation honors at the California state fair. The 2005 vintage is in keeping with this trend winning a gold medal at the 2008 Los Angles International Wine & Spirits Competition.
The fruit from this tiny little vineyard just north of the town of Napa fits our ‘house’ style perfectly. The Rancho Sarco vineyard produces grapes that yield a wine with a tremendous depth of flavor combined with a texture that is soft and silky.
The 2005 Rancho Sarco Cabernet has a deep purple violet color. The aromas of cassis, currants, and dusty blueberries are complimented with a bouquet of vanilla and hazelnut. On the pallet there are creamy flavors of fully ripened black fruits. Notes of mocha and a light chalky dustiness, typical of Napa Valley Cabernet, round out the flavor. The tannins are soft and full adding a richness to the wine’s texture without adding astringency. We have aged this wine for an additional year so you won’t have to. Grab a corkscrew and enjoy this gem.
