The “R” Petite Sirah from the Enver Salman Vineyard is my most decorated wine. The 2006 vintage just won Best of Class and Best of Region honors at the California State Fair for the fourth time in the past five years. There is a real synergy between this Clarksburg Vineyard and the production techniques we employ that creates a wine with an intensity and richness that is unmatched. Furthermore, these characters are delivered with a supple smooth texture that is so rare in a fully flavored Petite Sirah.
The color of the 2006 Petite Sirah is the typical inky purple. The aromas of this year’s wine are of dense concentrated black fruits, with nuances of blueberry. The bouquet features a mocha and dark chocolate character that, along with the jammy fruit, makes this vintage smell like dessert. The wine’s flavor is so full of ripe boysenberry and blackberries that it borders on sweetness. Aging in deeply toasted French Oak provides an additional flavor reminiscent of Black Patent Malt. The texture is rich and creamy, and full of well-rounded tannins. The finish is long and lingers for minutes after swallowing the wine.
