“Idiot’s Grace Vineyard”, Columbia Gorge
Vineyard:
Estate grapes from Idiot’s Grace Vineyard, Mosier, OR. Certified
organic.
Blend: 100% Primitivo
Cooperage: Neutral French oak
Bottled: 5/24/11
Alcohol: 12.6%
Production: 25 Cases (one barrel)
Tasting Notes:
“I was too long among the vines in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley
to not consider planting Zinfandel up here. Primitivo isn’t quite
Zin, but an extremely close smaller-berried relative. The bottling
is simply the contents of our favorite barrel from the vintage, 100
Mosier-grown. In contrasting this work with examples from the
Golden State, we affectionately note a strong family
resemblance—even as the Gorge growing area leaves its own mark.
Dulled neither by over-maturity (and high alcohol) nor the
gravy-like exposure to new oak (in any form), the fruit romps
freely.”
~ Brian McCormick, Winemaker (8/8/11)
