Luminol is a highly sensitive blood reagent used to locate latent bloodstain evidence. The Luminol reagent has been used by criminal investigators for over 50 years and is well documented in the forensic literature. The chemiluminescent reaction should be viewed in near darkness. We recommend that cameras begin with a wide aperture (such as f4 and a shutter speed of at least 10-15 sec. Each scene may be different so these settings are merely suggested as a place to begin. All photographs should be taken from a stable platform such as a tripod. Our formula has been extensively field tested and has even been used to detect blood patterns in soil up to 20 months in age.
