-- Biodynamic Grapes
Biodynamic farming is a branch of organic farming with a significant “philosophical” addition. The farm is considered a unified and individual organism. Part of the process is that certain compost “teas” must be prepared to aid fertilization, and the timing of the application of these “teas” and cultural practices is regulated by an astronomical calendar. No synthetic or manufactured pesticides or fertilizers are allowed. There is some controversy as to whether biodynamic is superior to organic, but in many tastings of wine produced from biodynamic grapes, the flavors were considered more defined and deep, when compared with organic or conventional agriculture. Some attribute these differences to the more “fanatical”attention to detail that a biodynamic farmer may have versus a normal organic or traditional farmer. Pests and weeds are managed by spraying teas of the ashes of the pest on the field, restoring the balance of the ecosystem.Biodynamic farming is regulated by the private group Demeter, who holds the copyright of the word “biodynamic”, and establishes standards for and certifies farms as biodynamic.
Bright red fruit aromas are supported by cassis and vanilla wood notes, followed by rich full fruit flavors and smooth oak flavor. This wine has a long clean fruity finish.
