Tasting Notes
Wonderful, warm and inviting notes of ripe dark fruit and berries, cassis, a cherry-vanilla reduction sauce, and dusty spice with a pleasant hint of smoke.
This is Andrew Murray's darkest and most brooding version of Esperance in recent memory, so I recommend decanting for an hour or more before enjoying (at least until it has another year or so under its cork, so to speak.)
The Wine:
A blend of 60% Grenache, 25% Syrah, & 15% Mourvedre – the classic “MSG” blend of the Rhône region. Andrew named this wine in homage to L’Esperance, a great restaurant and inn in Vezelay that he used as a "home-base" during his early explorations into the Rhône Valley. In a story similar to mine, the food and wine of the region got under his skin, and began to resonate with something at his core. Those of us who love his wines are glad they did!
