I love crisp white wines in the summer. On a hot day, they quench my thirst better than beer or iced tea, and when paired with summer foods provide a level of pleasure those other beverages only dream of. Don’t get me wrong, I love beer. It’s just that, well… there’s no match.
This straw-hued Sauvignon Blanc comes from a producer who releases dozens of wines each year, most of them in small batches like this one - less than 300 cases!
Stylistically, the wine is between the extremes of New Zealand’s “Grapefruit and Grass” on the one side, and Napa’s “Almost Chardonnay” on the other. I think this is right about where Sauvignon Blanc should be – varietally distinct but not cartoony.
Pairs beautifully with a goat cheese salad or a simple herb-roasted chicken (served either hot or cold). Mango ceviche soars to new heights when buoyed by this wine’s citrus and tropical notes.
Cheers!
