The richness and depth of this blend need to be tasted to be understood fully, as we have mined the structural strength of the Sangiovese and couched it within the softness of Pinot noir. The Zinfandel contributes the brambly, blueberry character along with an unctuous mouth feel. Syrah brings a hint of the smoky, meaty characters and contributes to the structural core. Seventy five year old, dry farmed Carignane brings a lovely chocolaty flavor and silky tannins.

White varieties finding their way into red wines are not uncommon occurrences in the Old World. Viognier commonly went into blends and Malvasia into Chianti has, until recently, actually been required. For our Peloton, Chardonnay creates the seamless texture from start to finish and the dabs of Gewurtztraminer and Viognier lift the aromatics just a bit. Given the deep color, one wouldn’t know there is 14% white wine in this blend. The aroma provides a great deal of complexity given the presence of these eight wines in the peloton. So many fruits, spices and earth tones surface from the first impression that the wine beckons a return for another sip. It is this type of intrigue we seek to create and how we hope this wine will be the winner of "the empty glass first" contest in your experience of it.

Technical Data:

Vineyards: this wine represents the very best of Mendocino and Sonoma County.
