HOW TO BUILD YOUR KIT
Your Tranquileyes kit comes with a goggle (equipped with a set of lined foam), mesh washbag, and manual. You select the following:
Goggle color: This is just the rubber outside part of the goggle. Choose from sky blue, sage green, lavender, soft pink or charcoal.
Case size: Tranquileyes kits come in convenient stainless steel containers.
Spare foam: Please click on the picture to see the goggle parts in order details and with labels. What we call a "foam set" is a full pair of eye cushions (the foam that adheres to the goggle and conforms to your face) plus moisture pads (the removeable foam inserts that you moisten and place in the goggle when using it). These foam sets need to be replaced regularly, for hygiene reasons and because the cushions will eventually pull away from the goggle. The cushions and pads are made of the same viscoelastic foam, but two types are available:
Cleanser: The moisture pads must be washed and air dried after each use to prevent bacteria buildup. We offer a 1 oz. bottle of a gentle antibacterial liquid cleanser specially formulated for this purpose. Alternatively, you can use another gentle antibacterial soap or baby shampoo.
Thermoeyes / Thermopads: Thermoeyes are miniature self-contained, self-activating heat packs that fit inside the goggle. They can be used with the Thermopads (slim, dense pads used instead of the regular moisture pads) to raise the humidity in the goggle very high and provide a soothing 20-minute "intensive hydrating" treatment first thing in the morning, during the day, just before bed, or during air travel. Thermoeyes are not suitable for use in the goggle while sleeping. They are self-activating, and can be re-used hundreds of times, but they must be boiled and cooled after each use before they can be re-activated.
For pictures and more detailed information about Thermoeyes heat inserts, please see the separate product listing for Thermoeyes.

Tranquileyes is a natural way to relieve the symptoms of dry eyes. It's particularly well suited for people who experience severe nighttime dryness. It utilizes a soft, flexible goggle with foam eye cushions and an absorbent pad that you soak in water to create a moist, humid environment around the eye. Tranquileyes prevents the evaporation of natural and artificial tears while moisturizing the delicate skin around the eyes.
MORE ABOUT THE FOAM
There are two pieces of foam on each eyecup: The "eye cushions", which are stuck to the goggle with an adhesive and help it conform gently to your face, and the "moisture pads", which you (optionally) soak in warm water and squeeze out before place them in the goggle. Click on the goggle to see all the parts labelled.
Three important points about the foam:
(1) KEEP THEM CLEAN! You must wash the removeable moisture pads after each use. We recommend using a gentle antibacterial soap. The last thing your vulnerable dry eyes need is exposure to bacteria. No shortcuts. The cushions on the goggle don't need to be washed as often (we suggest once a week... more frequently, and you'll find the foam pulling away from the goggle sooner than you'd like).
(2) REPLACE THEM regularly. As a rough guide each pair should last one to two months.
(3) CHOOSE YOUR TYPE: There are two types, the standard foam which has a sheer black fabric on the top and bottom, and the unlined soft dark gray foam. Some people end up with a very strong preference for one type or another. Personally I prefer the unlined foam (designed for sensitive skin). It is rather harder to replace when the time comes. My trick is to pull the foam away gently, then try and 'roll' up any adhesive residue, then if necessary I use a little rubbing alcohol to help get the adhesive fully off before putting a new set on.
The goggles come fitted with lined foam but you can get the replacement foamsets in either type.
REBECCA'S REVIEW
A general note on moisture-retention products: There are many products for dry eye that I like. But of all the consumer products now available for people with dry eye, in my opinion, the top two performers in terms of the percentage of people who experience enough relief to use them frequently are TRANQUILEYES and PANOPTX. And no coincidence: They are the best products currently available for creating a moist microenvironment for your eyes – protecting them while worn, and helping them heal enough to (in many cases) prolong your comfort when not worn. While they are relatively costly, they also have a long lifespan (and both have replaceable foam) making them wise investments for many of us. If you have chronic dry eye or are going through a prolonged acute dry eye episode, then I would strongly advise you to either purchase these two products or investigate less expensive (or even home-made) alternatives. You will find alternative products here in our shop and if you can't, give us a call and we'll help you track down what you need.
Now, about Tranquileyes specifically: First, I use it most nights myself. The only time when I don't use it is if I'm traveling and forgot it or I'm having an unusually good spell and can get by with a simple sleep mask. (I have a low tolerance for hassle factor.) I go through phases when I can just use it dry, and other phases when I have to wet the pads. But I hardly ever go through a night without my eyes covered – and when I do, I pay for it. So I have a very high respect for this product, because for night protection, there is simply nothing that matches it let alone beats it. In case you're curious, my evening routine (I try to keep things simple…) after removing my sclerals is to do a Rice Baggy for about 10 minutes, put in some Dwelle, and pop on the goggle. To make it easy on myself, I wet the tranquileyes pads while the Rice Baggy is in the microwave and bring both to bed with me… assuming I'm still awake when the rice cools, I pop it off, drop in some drops and pop on the goggle.
In terms of our customers, the vast majority of people who successfully use this mask overnight are those who have significant dry eye at night from chronic dry eye, lagophthalmos (incomplete lid closure), or recurrent erosions in varying degrees of severity. There are also others who don't get severe dry eye at night but who find that they do better during the day if they use this at night. And then there are people who buy it for more specific uses – especially air travel. Finally, there are some who get it for daytime use – you can get some relief by using it for a 20-minute stint once or twice a day.
What to expect: Don't expect overnight results, and please, please don't give up if you don't see results in the first day or even the first week. When I first started, it took a few days before I saw any difference at all, but after a while, the difference was very marked – and became more so over time. Your mileage may vary, of course! For me, the first difference I noticed was in a persistent grittiness in my right eye that I have had for years first thing in the morning. It was one of those things that I wasn't even totally conscious of until I started noticing it wasn't THERE anymore. Whoa.
Is it comfortable enough to sleep in? Now here's where the real individuality factor kicks in. Many, probably most people find this perfectly comfortable from the get-go. Occasionally someone finds it too tight or too loose and have to adjust something or even jury-rig the headwrap somehow. Occasionally someone finds the pads put too much or too little pressure on their lids. Some people absolutely can't stand anything touching their lids – others, with severe lagophthalmos, absolutely must have something pressing on their lids. The good thing is, there are almost always ways to make it work. Some people end up removing the central moisture pads and using it without those, or using a slimmer pad (just ask us). Some people will have problems with it coming off at night. In my experience, most people either find a way to tweak it or simply unconsciously adjust to it within a week or so even if at first they have a rough time at first. But then, there's nothing like motivation is there. People who seek out this product usually really need it!
Kudos to Suzanne at Eye Eco who invented this product. We really need innovative things like this on the market for chronic dry eye patients.
Who am I? My name is Rebecca Petris and I have had chronic dry eye since undergoing LASIK in July 2001. I founded The Dry Eye Company as a result of my experiences, hoping to make useful information and effective products more accessible to others with dry eye. Each product in this store has been personally tested and approved by me. For a list of my top favorites – the items I use on a daily basis myself – click here.
PLEASE DON'T FORGET...
It goes without saying but I'll say it anyway. As with all eyecare products, make sure you discuss this with your doctor. This is particularly important if you have any other ongoing eye conditions (such as infections or ingrown eyelashes) for which having something resting on your lids at night may not be suitable.
