Dark purple hue. Please pass the white pepper! This Garys’ Syrah is a perfect example of cool-climate Syrah. Intense aromas of white pepper and to a lesser extent blueberries, black pepper, and anise. On the palate, the wine is very silky and expansive. Layers of vanilla bean, blueberries, and bacon comprise of this rich Syrah, while not being over-powering. This wine has the stuffing to last 10+ years. A great pair for lamb or even dessert!

This meaty syrah is juicy right in the middle and the juiciness lasts. It tastes of ripe wild blueberries – a little beauty, as sleek as a young Crozes-Hermitage with richer fruit. The elevation as well as the powerful winds from the Pacific make this vineyard, planted in 1997, a site to watch for cool climate Syrah. -Joshua Greene

This is a big wine that’s not ready now-it’s too tannic. That gives it a lockdown, numbing quality that blocks a full appreciation of fruit. But what fruit! Blackberries pure and simple, reduced to their quintessence. Such is the inherent integrity of this wine that is should effortlessly negotiate 4 to 6 years, gradually softening. -Steve Heimoff
