Jobi Pottery |
Jobi Pottery, named for its original owners, Joe Colliano and Bill Hastings, is an original Truro cottage industry that began in 1951.
The Pottery is called "slip mold" pottery because slip, liquid clay, is poured into a mold to shape the piece. There are over 250 original plaster molds from the 1950s and 60's either made or bought by the original Jobis. The pottery was subsequently bought in the mid-1970s and operated by Lee and Elizabeth Locke who ran it until it closed in 2003.
Retro Truro, the new home of Jobi Pottery, owned by Susan Kurtzman, opened in 2005. The pottery in now the third generatioon to use the original Jobi molds, and each piece is still made the old-fashioned way: hand-poured, individually shaped, cleaned and painted free hand with under glaze designs in Susan's home studio. Joe Colliano, now 81, tought Susan to paint the original designs and Steve Locke, son of Elizabeth and Lee, works as production manager in the studio.
This year, at Kathy Robert's request, Susan created new "TVCC by Jobi" designs exclusively for Truro Vineyards of Cape Cod. We are proud to be presenting these new designs in the winery gift shop as well as here on our online store.
