Lush red fruitflavors of cranberry and raspberry on the nose with a dusting ofwhite pepper and red currant. The palate follows the nose withwell-integrated, soft, round tannins and a bright, refreshingfinish that leaves the red fruit flavor lingering. Drink now or agefor 5-7 years.

VINTAGE
The spring of 2011 waswet and cool, which resulted in a very late bud-break on May 5thand a subsequent late bloom on July 4th. The fruit set was veryfast due to a warm spell and completed in mid-July with an abundantnumber of clusters and minimum shattering of berries. We dropped asignificant amount of fruit to adjust the crop to our targetyields. The summer continued on to be cooler than normal (thecoolest of the past 30 years) and veraison did not complete untilmid-September, which is extremely late. Temperatures remained belownormal for the rest of the season, so we pulled all the leaves inthe fruit zone to minimize the risk of disease and maximize sunexposure. We started harvest on October 25th in Terres Bassesvineyard and finished on November 22nd, the latest in our 18-yearhistory, but we did it before Thanksgiving! Like in other coolyears, our strategy has been to let the fruit hang as long aspossible to ripen the tannins and to use our cold storage facilityto further refine them. Our 2011 wines show great color, concentration, refined tannins and lower alcohol levels hoveringaround 13.5% alc. The 2011 wines have all the hallmarks of a verybalanced, elegant and age-worthy vintage.

VINEYARDS

WillaKenzie Estate has eighteen acres of Pinot Gris, planted in1992, 1993, and 1995. The vines areplanted at 1200 vines/acre,running north to south, to allow for maximum sun exposure. All thevineyards are planted on Willakenzie soil, known for itsexcellentdrainage. The clones used are Pinot Gris clones from the Alsaceregion of France, grafted onto phylloxera-resistant rootstocks andtrained into an upright, double guyot trellising system.

Alcohol: 13.5 -- Brix: 22.5º -- pH: 3.6 -- TA: 5.6

WINEMAKING
We used our state ofthe art, gravity-flow winery to achieve a fully extracted andcomplex 2010 Pinot Meunier. During this process, no whole clusterswere used and the grapes were 100% destemmed. A cool macerationpreceded the fermentation for a total of 20 days of skin contactwith daily punch downs by ‘Bigfoot,’ our mechanical punchdowndevice. After pressing, the wine settled for a few days in tank andwas then moved by gravity directly into barrels where it underwentMalolactic fermentation during the next 7 months. The wine spent atotal of 10 months in French oak barrels (20% new) from a selectionof coopers. The 2010 Pinot Meunier was bottled entirely underscrewcap closures.

Alcohol: 13.5% -- pH: 3.6 -- TA: 5.4

Visit All Products to see additional products in this category.

Its nose of fresh sugar cane, peartatin, honeysuckle, and just a hint of wet stone is very aromaticand inviting. A juicy citrus entry rounds into pineapple, Asianpear, green coconut and soft minerals, finishing with a slightlysteely, halva note. Drink now or age for 5-7 years. Serve slightlychilled. Try with a rabbit and mushroom mousseline, truffle fries,or a fresh spinach and chevre salad.

VINTAGE

The 2010 vintage caused much anxiety in Oregon although itfeatured a relatively warm winter, especially February. Spring, however, was cold and wet, with May and June temperatures 8-10degrees below average on most days. Budbreak occurred in the thirdweek of April, but very little growth took place in the followingweeks. Veraison was one of the latest on record, beginning at theend of August and completing in mid-September. The vintage wassaved by a sunny and fairly dry October, contributing to goodphenolic maturity, albeit at a lower than usual Brix level. Harveststarted on October 19 with Terres Basses and finished on November 1just before the rainy season. These wines are balanced with a lowerlevel of alcohol, typically around 13.8, and they exhibit anexcellent fruit profile.

VINEYARDS

Several acres of Chardonnay were planted in 1995 to Dijon Clones76 and 96. These clones ripen early and produce grapes thatconsistently make a fuller, richer wine. For many years Bernardmade this Chablis-style wine for his personal cellar but in honorof Marco, the wine’s namesake, he released it to the public. Thename Clos Marco was selected to honor the late, beloved DobermanPinscher, who used to roam the vineyards with Bernard.

Yield: 3.9 tons/acre -- Brix: 22.1º -- pH: 3.2 -- TA: 8.5

WINEMAKING

We timed our harvest based on taste and physiological maturity. Our goal is to let the vines fully express the fruit qualities thatare characteristic of the varietal. We make our Chardonnay in theChablis style to

emphasize fruit, minerality and crisp acidity. The grapes arepressed whole clusters, and after cold

settling of the juice, inoculated with yeast chosen to enhancethe fruit’s aromatics. We fermented in

stainless steel containers slowly and at low

temperatures to optimize the freshness and subtlety of thefruit.

Alcohol: 13.5 % -- Residual Sugar: 0.2% --

pH: 3.25 -- TA: 7.9

Visit All Products to see additional products in this category.
