Mont Pellier Viognier 2009, California

Viognier is a relatively uncommon wine compared to many white varietals, and originally comes from the Rhone Valley in France, where its most famous incarnation is found in Condrieu. Viognier vines are finicky, and because they require a specific climate, this wine is not as common, and often more expensive, than the easier-going Chardonnay; perhaps a major reason why Viognier is not more popular.
Montpellier Vineyards has found some ideal sites to grow Viognier with great success, and the result is one of the best values available in this varietal, with a wonderful combination of fruit and floral aromas.
Chill a bottle of this wine and enjoy it with your friends on a lazy afternoon; perfect for sipping but also goes great with Thai food, grilled shrimp or a mixed salad with cheese.
