This wine is alight bodied blend, in the tradition of the wines of Beaujolais. Itwill prove an ideal aperitif for those preferring red wines. It ismeant to be served young, and slightly chilled, with cheeses,pizza, pastas, and smoked ham. In 1621, when “ancient planter” JohnJohnson recorded his 100 acres located on Archer’s Hope, the 300acre farm where the Winery now stands, his “fee rent” to the Crownwas two shillings. The name John Johnson is found on the documentidentifying the first settlers, including Capt. John Smith. A copyof the original document is on exhibit in the Museum at thewinery.

This is apremium red wine, skillfully styled to reflect the art of blendingin the Bordeaux tradition. Gabriel Archer Reserve represents thebest efforts of the winemaking team to produce the finest, mostcomplex red wine possible. This wine is made from a blendwhich combines only what the winemakers deem to be the best barrelsfrom the vintage. Gabriel Archer is only bottled in those vintagesof suitable quality. This unique and distinctive wine is namedin honor of the co-captain of the "Godspeed," arriving in the NewWorld in April, 1607. Captain Gabriel Archer led the firstexploration party up the James River, choosing as his preferredlanding site a point later to be known as "Archer's Hope," now partof the farm where The Williamsburg Winery stands.

The extended barrel aging of this wine has given it a verystructured and elegant profile of caramel and vanilla with wellrounded red fruit tones of cherry and strawberry. Additionally there are some wonderful spice and tobacco nuancesthat blend well with the fruit characteristics. The oak isnot prominent but well balanced and there are the added notes ofcedar which compliment nicely. The wine has soft tanninswhich make it smooth and easy to drink yet it still has a goodfruit finish which lingers on the palette. A well balancedwine which will pair with many foods.

Adagio (from Italian ad agio, 'at ease'). A musicalterm indicating the tempo of a composition that is meant to be slowand stately. So named in honor of the extraordinary depth,elegance and grace of this wine.

This isperhaps the biggest Adagio to date. There are multiple layersof blackberry, blueberry, and black cherry all wrapped in a layerof cocoa. Some rich black fig and date aromas blend nicelywith the fresh fruits. The spice comes through cleanly, withan essence of cinnamon and anise which plays wellwith earthy notes of truffles and mushrooms. Theoak is very well integrated and balances splendidly with therich tannins. The finish is bold and rich in both aromas andfinish. A Virginia blockbuster wine.

The 2010 LordBotetourt may be the best one to date; a very rich and forward winewith multiple layers. The fruit aspect of the wine isdominated by blueberry, black cherry, dates, black figs and just awee bit of raspberry. The earthiness of the wine is an oldworld style and lends a wonderful structure to the wine. There are also some very pleasing chocolate, coffee and hazelnutcharacters. The tannins are well integrated and smooth whichmakes for a nice mouth feel. The oak is superbly integratedinto the fruit aspects of the wine. All of these things puttogether make for a very well balanced wine and as I said maybe thebest one yet. This remains a classic bistro wine that will gowell with many comfort foods.
