How do I activate UPS shipping in Nexternal, so that I can pull live rates, ship packages, and print shipping labels?
Response:
You will first need to set up an account with UPS. Next, you will need to activate your UPS OnLineĀ® Tools in Nexternal. To do this, we recommend that you follow the steps in the Guided Tutorial called "Integrate UPS into Nexternal". This tutorial provides additional tips and information about each step. Click Guided Tutorials in the left navigation in your Nexternal OMS, and search for UPS in the tutorial pop up block.
If you wish to go it alone without the Guided Tutorial, then in your Nexternal OMS, navigate to Settings / Compatible Software / Online Shipping Tools / UPS Developer Kit / Register. Click "I agree" for the User Terms, and fill in the appropriate data in the Company Information and UPS Account Information sections.
UPS Account Information section: If you will not be shipping with UPS, and are activating this connection for other purposes, such as address validation, you do not need to create a UPS account or complete the UPS Account Information section.
If you will be shipping through UPS, then completing this section is required. Note when providing the invoice information, that if the shipper number provided has an invoice with UPS within the last 90 days then you must provide the details OF THE LATEST INVOICE.
Then click Finish at the bottom of the page. When you get to the page that says UPS Developer Kit Registration Successful, click the "Back" button. Then check the box for UPS Rates & Service Selection, and the Box for UPS Tracking. If you filled out the UPS Account Information because you will be creating shipping labels within Nexternal, then also check the UPS Shipping box.
If UPS is the only shipper you are integrating, check the box for UPS Address Validation. If you have Fed Ex integrated as well, then you may choose between UPS and FedEx address validation.
Once the boxes are checked, navigate to Settings / Compatible Software / Online Shipping Tools / Preferences.
Check the "Use Declared Value" box if you wish to charge your customers for insurance relating to the Product Price, instead of the standard shipper "included" amount.
Select your UPS Delivery Confirmation Option for Restricted Products and for Non-Restricted products.
Check "Use Negotiated Rates" to begin the real-time rate calculation with your negotiated UPS rates (vs UPS published rates). Check this box if you want to pass your negotiated rates to your customers (as modified by any rate adjustments you've set).
When either published or discounted Shipping Rates are returned by UPS, you may choose to adjust those rates up or down.
Select your UPS Customer Classification to indicate which UPS Rate Chart will be used by UPS to determine rates.
Select your Shipping Label Format (laser vs thermal printer), and set up any additional options as may be applicable.
Then click Finish.
Once you have completed the UPS connection, navigate to Settings / Shipping to configure the UPS methods you would like to allow.
