Changing a Subscription Product from No Attributes to One with Attributes

I am considering adding attributes and options to a product for which I have active subscriptions. What happens to my existing subscriptions if I change that product from single price model with no attributes, to a product with attributes/options and sku based pricing? Would it be relevant if I were sure to have a default selection chosen for the new attributes?

You would need to go into your existing subscriptions and make attribute choices, or you will receive errors on their next attempt to create orders. Default selection has no bearing. If you have a large number of subscriptions, it may be more efficient to hide that product (the existing subscriptions will still work), and create a new one with attributes.
